Quick answer: To charge a rechargeable vape, plug a USB-C cable into the device’s charging port and connect it to a wall adapter you know works. Leave it until the screen or light shows full, then unplug it. None of the product pages for the devices we sell list a charge time, so go by the battery indicator, not the clock.

Most of today’s large-puff disposables and pod kits are rechargeable. Every rechargeable device we sell, from the Geek Bar Pulse X2 50K to the RAZ LTX 25K and the Foger Switch Pro 30K, charges through USB-C, according to our product pages. This guide covers how to charge each type safely, how to tell when it’s full, and what to do when it won’t charge.

How do you charge a vape?

  1. Find the port. On most disposables, the USB-C port is on the bottom or side. On pod kits, it’s on the battery part, not the pod.
  2. Use a USB-C cable. Many devices don’t come with a cable in the box. Any working USB-C cable that fits snugly is fine.
  3. Use a wall adapter. A standard phone wall adapter is usually more reliable than a laptop port or a car charger.
  4. Watch the indicator. Devices with screens show a battery level. Others use a light that changes or turns off when full.
  5. Unplug when full. Our Foger Bit product page notes to avoid overcharging or leaving it plugged in for long periods. That’s good practice for any device.

How long does it take to charge a vape?

There’s no single answer, and we won’t make one up. None of the product pages for the devices we sell list a full charge time. It depends on the battery size, how empty it is, the cable and the adapter. The practical rule: charge until the screen or light says full, then unplug.

Battery sizes do vary. Here’s what our product pages list:

Device Type Battery (as listed) Charging
RAZ LTX 25K Sealed disposable 800 mAh USB-C
RAZ RX 50K Sealed disposable 800 mAh USB-C
Geek Bar Pulse X2 50K Sealed disposable Not listed USB-C
RAZ Vue 50K Pod kit 900 mAh power bank + 420 mAh pod cell USB-C on the power bank
Foger Switch Pro 30K Modular kit 850 mAh power bank + 200 mAh pod USB-C
Geek Bar Clio Platinum 50K Pod kit Not listed USB-C on the device

A bigger battery generally takes longer to fill from empty than a smaller one on the same charger, but the indicator is the only reliable guide for your device.

How long to charge a vape pen or e-cig battery

Vape pens, e-cigs and pod kits follow the same rule as disposables: there’s no fixed charge time we can honestly give you. Our product pages list battery sizes, not charge times. What changes the time:

  • Battery size. The Foger Switch Pro’s power bank is 850 mAh and the RAZ LTX 25K is 800 mAh, per our product pages. Bigger batteries take longer from empty.
  • How flat it is. Topping up a half-charged device is quicker than charging from dead.
  • Cable and adapter. A phone wall adapter is usually quicker and steadier than a laptop port or car charger.

If a device shows no change on its screen or light after a reasonable time plugged in, swap the cable and adapter first, then use the “Why won’t my vape charge?” table below.

How to tell when your vape is fully charged

  • Screen devices: Many current models have a screen. The Pulse X2’s 3D curved screen shows battery and e-liquid levels, and the RAZ LTX’s Mega HD display shows battery, e-liquid, wattage and mode, per our product pages. Unplug when the battery reads full.
  • Light-only devices: Watch for the light to change or turn off. Behavior varies by brand, so check the instructions in the box.
  • Pod kits: Charge the battery part. On the RAZ Vue, that’s the power bank; on the Clio Platinum, it’s the device.

Can you use your vape while it’s charging?

Our product pages don’t say whether pass-through use is supported, so the safe choice is to wait. Let the device charge, unplug it, then use it. It also keeps the cable from getting yanked out of the port.

How to charge a vape without the original charger

Most rechargeable vapes don’t need a special charger. A standard USB-C cable and a phone wall adapter will do the job. What to avoid:

  • Damaged, frayed or loose cables
  • Forcing a cable that doesn’t fit the port
  • Improvised methods such as touching wires or batteries to the device. They can damage it and are a fire risk.
  • Charging a device that is wet, swollen, cracked or leaking

If you’ve lost the battery part of a pod kit, you’ll need the matching kit or battery. For example, the Foger Switch Pro 850mAh Battery ($9.99) is a replacement power dock for Switch Pro pods, with USB-C fast charging and overcharge protection listed. Our page notes it works only with genuine Switch Pro pods.

Why won’t my vape charge?

Problem What to try
No light or screen when plugged in Try a different cable and wall adapter
Cable feels loose Check the port for lint; clear it with a dry swab, never a metal tool
Pod kit won’t charge Make sure you’re charging the battery part, and the pod is seated
Charges, but won’t hit The e-liquid may be used up, or the airflow is blocked
Got wet Don’t charge it; let it dry fully first

Vape not charging and no light? Work through these in order

A rechargeable disposable that shows no light at all when plugged in usually has a cable, adapter or port problem, not a dead device. Check these one at a time:

  1. Swap the cable. Use a USB-C cable you know charges a phone. Some thin cables carry power only loosely or not at all.
  2. Swap the wall adapter. Try a standard phone wall adapter instead of a laptop, car or power-strip USB port.
  3. Check the port. Lint or e-liquid residue can block contact. Clear it with a dry swab, never a metal tool, then let it dry.
  4. Give it time. A fully drained battery can take a few minutes before the light or screen wakes up. Leave it plugged in for 10–15 minutes before deciding it is not charging.
  5. Pod kits: charge the battery part. On a Foger Switch Pro, charge the power dock and make sure the pod is seated. If the pod is the problem, see Foger Switch Pro pod not detected.
  6. Still nothing? Stop charging it if the device is wet, swollen, cracked or hot. Otherwise, the battery or charging board may have failed, and the device needs replacing.

Model-specific steps: Geek Bar Pulse not charging, RAZ vape not hitting after charging and Foger vape not working.

Charging tips to protect your battery

  • Charge before the battery is completely flat.
  • Unplug once it reads full; don’t leave it on the charger overnight.
  • Charge at room temperature, away from heat, direct sun and bedding.
  • Don’t charge in a hot car.
  • Store spares upright in a cool, dry place.

Charging won’t bring back e-liquid. Once a sealed disposable is out of liquid, recharging won’t help. That’s where a pod kit like the RAZ Vue or Clio Platinum comes in: you keep the battery and swap the pod. For battery life in general, see how long does a vape battery last. How do you charge a vape battery without a charger?

The battery. On the RAZ Vue, charge the power bank; on the Clio Platinum, charge the device. The Vue pod has its own 420 mAh cell built in.
