Why Is My Vape Leaking? Causes and Fixes by Device Type

For adults 21+ only. Smokey Cloudz sells only to adults of legal age. See our Age Policy and Sales Restrictions. Vapes contain nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive chemical.

Quick answer: Most vape “leaks” are condensation: vapor that cools and collects in the mouthpiece after hard or rapid draws. Wipe the mouthpiece, store the device upright at room temperature and take slower draws. On a pod kit, also re-seat the pod and dry the contacts. If liquid keeps pooling on the outside, or the tank or housing is cracked, stop using that device.

Finding liquid where it shouldn’t be is one of the most common vape complaints we hear. The fix depends on where the liquid shows up and what kind of device you have. A sealed disposable, a pod kit with a separate battery, and a modular power bank with snap-on pods all leak for slightly different reasons. This guide walks through each one. If you use a Geek Bar specifically, our shorter Geek Bar leaking guide covers that brand on its own. Device details below come from our product pages, checked October 24, 2026.

Is it a real leak or just condensation?

Before you fix anything, figure out which problem you have. The two look similar but behave differently.

What you see Most likely cause What to do
A few drops inside the mouthpiece, or a wet taste on the lips Condensation Wipe the mouthpiece, tap the device gently on your palm, draw more slowly
Gurgling or crackling sound when you pull Liquid pooled in the airway Tap mouthpiece-down onto a tissue, take a few short, gentle draws
Liquid at the bottom near the airflow hole Flooded coil, heat or pressure Store upright, keep out of hot cars and direct sun
Liquid around the pod where it meets the battery Pod not seated or dirty contacts Remove the pod, dry both sides, re-seat until it clicks
Liquid on the outside that keeps coming back, or a visible crack Physical damage Stop using it; see our Refund & Returns policy if it arrived that way

Small amounts of condensation are normal. A true leak usually points to damage, heat or a badly seated pod.

Why does my vape leak? The common causes

1. Hard or chain draws

Long, forceful pulls draw more liquid into the coil than it can vaporize. The extra ends up in the airway, where it gurgles or reaches your mouth. Taking slower, steadier draws with a short pause between puffs is the simplest fix. On devices with a higher-power mode, such as Pulse on Geek Bar or Boost on RAZ, the coil works harder, so give it a moment between puffs.

2. Heat and pressure changes

A device left in a hot car, in direct sun or in a back pocket warms the liquid, and that can push it past the seals. Keep your vape at room temperature and out of the sun. Our guide on whether disposable vapes expire covers storage in more detail.

3. Storing it on its side or upside down

Liquid settles toward the lowest point. Lying flat or mouthpiece-down for hours lets it creep into the airway. Stand the device upright when you’re not using it, especially overnight.

4. A pod that isn’t fully seated

This one only applies to pod kits and modular systems. If the pod sits even slightly crooked on the battery, liquid can collect at the joint and the device may not fire properly either. Remove the pod, wipe the contacts and the base of the pod with a dry tissue, then press it back in until it clicks.

5. Cracks and drops

A drop onto a hard floor can crack a tank or housing that looks fine at a glance. If liquid keeps appearing on the outside after you’ve wiped it and stored the device upright, check closely for hairline cracks. A damaged device should not be used.

How to fix a leaking vape, step by step

  1. Wipe it down. Dry the mouthpiece and outside with a paper towel or tissue. If liquid gets on your hands, wash them.
  2. Clear the airway. Hold the device mouthpiece-down over a tissue and tap it gently against your palm a few times.
  3. Check the pod (pod kits only). Remove it, dry both contact surfaces and re-seat it firmly.
  4. Take a few short, gentle draws. Don’t fire it hard to “clear” it, as that can flood the coil again.
  5. Store it upright at room temperature for the next few hours and see if the problem returns.
  6. Inspect for damage. If liquid is still escaping, or you can see a crack, stop using the device.

If your device also tastes burnt after a leak, see why a disposable vape tastes burnt. If it stops hitting, our unclogging guide walks through clearing the airflow.

Does the type of vape change the fix?

Sealed disposables (Geek Bar Pulse X2, RAZ RX, Geek Bar CLR)

Devices like the Geek Bar Pulse X2 50K and RAZ RX 50K are sealed and pre-filled. There’s nothing to re-seat, so leaks almost always come down to condensation, draw style, heat or damage. Don’t try to open a sealed disposable to dry it out. You will break the seal and make the problem worse.

Pod kits (RAZ Vue, Geek Bar Mate, Clio Platinum)

On a pod kit the pod and battery are separate parts, so the joint between them is one more place for liquid to collect. The RAZ Vue 50K Kit uses a clear 13 mL pod, and our product page lists leakproof bottom airflow. The Geek Bar Mate 60K Kit pod has a visible tank. A see-through tank shows whether the liquid level is really dropping. Always use the matching pod. Mate pods fit the Mate 60K only, and Vue pods fit the Vue bank only. See our replacement pod compatibility chart.

Modular power banks (Foger Switch Pro)

The Foger Switch Pro uses a magnetic 850 mAh power bank that snaps onto a 200 mAh pre-filled pod. If liquid appears at the magnetic joint, separate the two, wipe both faces dry and snap them back together. The pod recharges only when it’s docked on the Switch Pro bank, so keep the contacts clean for charging too.

What not to do

  • Don’t open, puncture or try to refill a sealed disposable.
  • Don’t blow hard into the mouthpiece to push liquid back, as it can force liquid toward the battery.
  • Don’t charge a device that has liquid around the charging port. Dry it fully first.
  • Don’t keep using a device with a cracked tank, pod or housing.

When should I replace it?

If you’ve wiped it, stored it upright, re-seated the pod and taken gentler draws, and liquid still escapes, the device or pod is likely damaged. On a pod kit, try a fresh pod first: if the leak stops, the old pod was the problem and you can keep using the battery. On a sealed disposable, the whole device needs replacing. If a product arrives already leaking or cracked, contact us with your order number before use, as described in our returns policy.

FAQ

Why is my vape leaking from the bottom?

Usually because liquid flooded the coil from hard draws, or heat pushed it past the seals. Wipe it, store it upright at room temperature and take slower draws. Liquid that keeps returning points to damage.

Is liquid in the mouthpiece normal?

A small amount of condensation is normal. Wipe the mouthpiece and tap the device gently mouthpiece-down onto a tissue.

Why does my vape gurgle?

Gurgling means liquid has pooled in the airway. Tap it out onto a tissue and take a few short, gentle draws instead of one long pull.

Why is my pod leaking where it meets the battery?

The pod is probably not fully seated, or the contacts are wet. Remove it, dry both sides and press it back in until it clicks.

Can I fix a leaking disposable vape?

You can clear condensation and change how you store and draw from it. You can’t open or reseal a disposable. If it’s cracked or keeps leaking, replace it.

Can I use a leaking vape?

Not if the tank, pod or housing is cracked or liquid keeps escaping. Stop using a damaged device.

Where can I find setup and fix guides for my vape?

Use the setup and leak-fix guides section on this page. It links how-to-use, charging, battery, unclog, not-hitting and burnt-taste guides, plus model guides for Geek Bar, RAZ and Foger.
