Why Does My Disposable Vape Taste Burnt? Causes and Fixes
For adults 21+ only. Smokey Cloudz sells only to adults of legal age. See our Age Policy and Sales Restrictions. Vapes contain nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive chemical.
Quick answer: A disposable vape usually tastes burnt because the coil is running short of e-liquid. That happens when the device is nearly empty, when you take puffs back to back, or when you use a high-power mode such as Pulse or Boost. Check the e-liquid level on the screen, wait a few minutes between puffs, and switch back to the standard mode. If the screen shows liquid left and every puff still tastes burnt, the device is likely done.

Why does my disposable vape taste burnt?
| Likely cause | What you notice | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| E-liquid nearly empty | Burnt taste builds over a few days; screen shows low liquid | Check the e-liquid display. If it’s near empty, the device is finished |
| Chain puffing | Burnt taste after several puffs in a row | Wait a few minutes so the wick can soak up liquid again |
| High-power mode | Harsher taste in Pulse, Boost or Super Boost | Switch to Regular or Normal mode |
| Airflow set too open or too tight | Taste changes after you move the airflow slider | Return the airflow to the middle setting, then adjust slowly |
| Stored hot, or upside down for a long time | Taste is off after the device sat in a car or bag | Let it sit upright at room temperature before using it |
How do I fix a burnt taste in a disposable vape?
- Read the screen. Most devices we stock show e-liquid and battery levels, including the Geek Bar Pulse X, Pulse X2, Pulse 2 and RAZ LTX.
- Drop the power. Go from Pulse or Boost back to Regular or Normal. Higher power uses liquid faster, which is why the puff ratings are lower in those modes.
- Slow down. Leave a short gap between puffs.
- Reset the airflow if your device has an adjustable airflow slider. See adjustable airflow vapes explained.
- Charge it. A low battery can change how the device fires. Charge it over USB-C and try again.
If the taste is still burnt after these steps and the screen shows liquid left, stop using the device. You cannot refill or re-wick a sealed disposable.
Can you fix a burnt coil in a disposable vape?
No. Sealed disposables have no replaceable coil. On a pod system you can replace the pod, which includes a new coil. That’s one reason some adults choose a pod kit such as the Foger Switch Pro, RAZ Vue 50K or Geek Bar Mate 60K: when a pod tastes burnt, you swap the pod and keep the battery.
Can you fix a burnt coil without replacing it?
Only if the coil is just dry, not burnt out. A dry coil often recovers: stop puffing for a few minutes, switch to the standard mode and keep the device upright so the wick can soak up e-liquid again. If the taste is still burnt with liquid showing on the screen, the coil itself is damaged. In a sealed disposable you can’t reach the coil, so the fix is a new device. On a pod kit, swap in a new pod such as the Foger Switch Pro pod or Clio Platinum pod, since the coil comes with the pod.
Why does a new disposable vape taste burnt?
A new sealed disposable comes pre-filled, so the wick should already be soaked. If the first puffs taste burnt, try the standard mode, take slow puffs and let the device rest upright for a few minutes. If it still tastes burnt with a full liquid reading, contact us. Our Refund and Returns policy explains the options.

Which mode uses the least e-liquid on each device?
Short answer: the lowest-power mode. Each device’s puff rating is highest in its standard mode, which shows it uses e-liquid more slowly there, giving the wick more time to soak between puffs.
| Device | Standard mode (rated puffs) | High-power mode(s) |
|---|---|---|
| Geek Bar Pulse 15000 | Regular: 15,000 | Pulse: 7,500 |

How do I change the mode on my device?
Short answer: it depends on the model, so follow the instructions on the packaging. On devices with a screen, the display shows which mode is active, so check it after switching. Our Geek Bar Pulse X troubleshooting guide and how to use a Foger Switch Pro cover those devices step by step.
How do I stop a pod kit from tasting burnt?
Short answer: replace the pod. On a kit, the coil is part of the pod, so a fresh pod fixes a burnt coil while you keep the battery.
- Check the screen. If the pod shows low e-liquid, it’s finished.
- Take the pod off the battery or device (magnetic on the Foger Switch Pro; see your model’s instructions for the RAZ Vue and Geek Bar Mate and Clio).
- Fit a matching replacement pod. Pods only fit their own system: Foger Switch Pro pod ($14.99), RAZ Vue pod ($24.99), Geek Bar Mate pod ($21.99), Clio Platinum pod ($24.99).
- Start in the standard mode and take a few slow puffs.

Habits that help prevent a burnt taste
- Keep the device upright and out of hot cars and direct sun.
- Use the standard mode most of the time and save high-power modes for occasional use.
- Leave a few seconds between puffs, and avoid very long draws.
- Recharge before the battery is completely flat.
A burnt taste often means the coil is worn out; here is how long a vape coil lasts.
FAQ
Does Pulse or Boost mode cause a burnt taste?
It can. Higher power uses e-liquid faster, so the wick has less time to soak between puffs. Product pages show this in the lower puff ratings for those modes.
Is it normal for a disposable to taste burnt near the end?
Yes. As the e-liquid runs out, the wick dries and the taste turns burnt. That usually means the device is finished.
Can I add e-liquid to a burnt disposable?
No. Sealed disposables are not refillable. Opening one can damage it.
Does a burnt taste mean the battery is dead?
Not usually. A dead battery normally means the device won’t fire or light up. A burnt taste points to the wick running dry. Check both levels on the screen.
How do I get rid of a burnt taste in my vape?
Switch to the standard mode, wait a few minutes between puffs, set the airflow back to the middle and keep the device upright. If the screen shows e-liquid left and the taste is still burnt after that, the coil is done: replace the pod on a pod kit, or replace the device if it is a sealed disposable.
How do you fix a burnt pod?
Replace it. On a pod kit the coil is built into the pod, so a fresh matching pod gives you a new coil and you keep the battery. The Foger Switch Pro pod and the Geek Bar Clio Platinum pod each have their own dual mesh coil.
