We’re a vape retailer, not a medical provider, and this is general information, not medical advice. Poison experts can tell you exactly what to do for your child.
What to do right away
- Take the vape away and check the child’s mouth for pieces or liquid.
- If e-liquid touched skin, wash with soap and water (FDA; America’s Poison Centers).
- If liquid got in the eyes, rinse with water (FDA).
- Call 1-800-222-1222 — even if you’re not sure anything happened (FDA). Have ready: child’s age and weight, the product (brand, nicotine strength), how the exposure happened (puff, chewed, swallowed liquid), and when.
- Don’t give anything by mouth unless the poison expert tells you to (HRSA Poison Help).
Why it matters
Most e-cigarette exposures reported to U.S. poison centers involve young children — about 88% were under age 5 in April 2022–March 2023 (CDC MMWR, 2023). The FDA warns that e-liquid can seriously harm children, especially if swallowed. Follow the poison center’s advice on what to watch for and whether to go to a doctor or ER.
Prevention
- Store vapes and e-liquids up high, out of sight and reach, every time (FDA).
- Ask guests who vape to keep bags and coats out of reach.
- Don’t charge or leave devices on low tables, couches, or car seats.
- Save 1-800-222-1222 in your phone.
